L’oreal redeemed themselves!

So I sent a complaint to L’oreal about their 15 minute hair color I bought. It actually was almost 100% gone from my roots in a week, so I lived with totally grey hair for almost 4 weeks before dying it again a few days ago.

In response to my complaint, they sent me $10 in mfr coupons!

I can only use one of the $5 ones at a time, so I get 2 boxes for $3 each. That’s a damn good deal. Well, $4 each now that I’ve moved to the Preference line.

YAY!

L’oreal Preference #8 Medium Blonde

LOVE IT!

I had to buy this in place of my normal Excellence #8 as, yes, it was sold out again at 2 Walmarts. But I found with great pleasure the color, smell and ease of use surpasses Excellence.

It’s not as easy to see where you put the color at first, but it’s much better smelling and not as thick so it’s easier to seperate your hair while it’s on to ensure complete coverage.

The color is outstanding and blended perfectly with my hair. I also like that total time of 30 minutes to cover grey as opposed to 40 with Excellence.

All-in-all, hands down I recommend Preference over the Excellence brand. It’s about a $1 to a $1.50 more but totally worth it. I paid $8.97 at Walmart and Excellence is $7.89.

Now if it holds the test of time to keep my greys covered, I’ll definately buy it again. Oh – and the conditioner smells awesome too!

And did I mention that I had ZERO scalp irritation? Normally I’ll have some redness and flaking pretty badly after I color my hair – with Preference I had nothing. It was so nice to not have to deal with that.

Pros

  • Better smelling
  • Shorter development time
  • Easier to move hair around to check coverage
  • Same color as the Excellence brands
  • 100% grey coverage
  • No scalp burning during development
  • No scalp irritation afterwards

Cons

  • A little more expensive
  • Not as easy to see where the color goes
  • Slight scalp itching after about 20 minutes

L’oreal Excellence To-go #8 (Medium Blonde) Review

Pros:

  • Easy to use root touch up comb
  • Color matches the Excellence #8 Medium Blonde
  • Quick & easy
  • Much better smelling – the new conditioner with it is awesome too, almost a coconut smell to it

Cons:

  • Did not cover my grey – about 75% is still showing and that’s with leaving it on for a full 15 minutes on the roots alone as instructed for “resistant greys”
  • Root comb pushed out a lot of product – I used almost all the product just on my roots
  • Not worth it for an extra $2

Results:

I’ll go back to my standard L’oreal Excellence color and hunt for it instead of getting something else when my color was out.  Would recommend if you don’t have a lot of greys.  If you do, stick to the normal L’oreal Excellence product.

I’m highly disappointed in this “new product” from L’oreal. It cost me time and money because now I can’t wait 4-5 weeks for the next colour.

Update: The color on my roots was almost 100% gone in the first week. I had to live with totally grey hair for almost 4 weeks before I could re-color it. Terrible product, would not recommend.

Sister’s Hair Advice #1

After many months, almost years, of trying to find a site that has reviews on hair colours, I’ve decided to start one.

My sister and I are avid hair colour girls, mostly because we’re 80% grey thanks to genetics. Yeah turning grey since we were 18.

Anyway, we both use different products and colors and before using one I look for a review. Too bad I’ve yet to find one. So here goes our blog.

I plan to use and review several different home-hair colour products and put that information here for others to hopefully use and comment on as well.

I’ve done several searches for “Loreal Excellence To-Go reviews” and haven’t found a SINGLE review on it to help me. Therefore, I’m starting my own.

I hope to also post photos of before/after and I’m going to review other colours I’ve used in the past as well.

Tomorrow I plan to touch up my roots with Loreal Excellenct To-Go #8 – Medium blonde.  I was using Loreal Excellence Medium Blonde but Walmart wasout so I was forced to buy the “to-go” brand. I hope it turns out well and lasts.

I went from brunette to blonde recently but after I lost my job in December I’ve been forced to try and maintain it on my own.  I’d say 60-75% of my hair is grey. All on top and down the sides. The back is still light brown so when I try to colour it blonde on my own it hasn’t been pulling up as light as the rest. But that’s ok, it’s the back only.

I loved the Excellence brand and so far it’s the ONLY brand that’s covered 100% of my grey hairs unless I miss any on my own. It also lasts for 4 weeks, sometimes 5 with the darker colours.

So here goes, tomorrow, I’ll colour with the “to-go” brand and post a report. Last time, I missed some of my hair in the back and so tomorrow I’ll have to pull it thru longer. I’m only doing the roots as the rest is still ok and I don’t want to pull up orange with what remains brunette.
